My mind was whirring until past midnight, last night. I was taking stock. This summer has been choppy so far:There’s been a lot of change in one part of my professional life, and it looks set to carry on for a while. As a family we've not seen enough of some good pals, because we've been all over the place. And I'm missing my trusty artist Edwin, who (see his emphatic contribution, above right) has dashed away to the coast with his grandparents. Slacker!
There have also been unexpected shifts of gear as we make our new Web series, VNN Nicely News. Another project’s pressing deadlines have affected our production schedule. We started the summer all guns blazing, and are now working to rebuild momentum after the filming and planning suddenly slowed.
That diverting of team focus, although it happened for an excellent reason, has affected me. The impetus we enjoyed a month or two ago helped fuel my output as co-creator (with Terisa) and main writer. But I’ve now adjusted to the fact that the energy hasn’t disappeared, just changed. For now, the pace is steadier, more workmanlike. And as I am also now taking on more production duties, I don’t have the luxury just to sit and want things to be otherwise. They ain’t.
Plus, it's jolly rewarding to be back to swapping notes with Terisa about matters of pith and moment, such as whether we can have a lead character yell the word "vulva" around teenage extras, at a posh country-club location shoot.
(We did.)
